Weekend Links

It has been a week.  Ha!  That is a weird thing to say and that is all I have to say.  On to the links!

Totally awesome Halloween DIY.  Masked portraits!

A baked ham and green bean bake sounds right up our alley.

A rad video showing 29 ways to stay creative.  Everyone could benefit from watching this!  Plus it is less than two minutes.  Inspiration in a tiny dose!

This print would be a modern fun piece of art for a nursery.

I am excited for clementine oranges to be back in season!  It is still a little early for them but once they are around I am going to make some candles out of them.

For those of us still trying to hang on to summer: lemonade inspiration!

This book may find its way into Nicco's stocking this year.  Boy loves to draw.  (Yes I know that I literally just gave a link about summer and then went straight to Christmas.  IT is coming faster than we know peeps!  I like to be prepared!)

Cute dainty DIY seed bead bracelets

This Meal Planning Awareness pledge is awesome!  The whole idea is to get 10k people to pledge to make 4 meals from home in September.  It means more time spent as a family, less waste, money savings and healthier meal options.  I pledged.  Will you?

I have to toss this Fall roundup from A Beautiful Mess into the mix.  Cause I love them and their ideas!

Things I Love

I am real need of a new blanket.  The one I am using is falling apart.  It is not pretty but it is perfect!  Perfect coverage, perfect warmth.  If it weren't falling apart it would be the stuff that dreams are made of.   But I think I could replace it happily with one of these bad boys!  Some of the blankets in this round up aren't right for my bed but I couldn't help but include them.  I love blankets in any shape or form.  Plus all of these are from Etsy.  Support handmade!

and then I died!

this is a baby quilt but oh it is beautiful!

This quilt would be perfect for a little girls room!

August Instants

I am a bit late with my monthly update of instant pictures.  This is sadly the one and only instant pic I took in August!  But I love it so much it is ridiculous.  This was Nicco's first day of school this year.  I love the instant gratification that I get with my Polaroid 300.  They are great for capturing sweet memories.  I have only had it for about 8 months but we already love to look through the jar and remember our favorite moments.

Weekend Links

Nick started a new job this week.  WOOT!  We are relieved.  Even though it seems like this job will just be a stepping stone to the next thing.  Sigh.  But we are still forever grateful for this opportunity for Nick to work during the day.  It is going to take a few weeks to get used to the new schedule.  We will be going from 5:30 in the morning until 11 at night most days.  Plus I am back to being on my own with the kids all day every day.  I keep reminding myself that this is temporary!  A minor blip in our lives.  I am also feeling amazing gratitude for my wonderful husband!  He is so willing so work hard for our family.  He blows my mind.  Nick having to work so much has also lit the fire under me to get my Etsy shop up and running.  I know that it might not make enough money for him to stay home but it will relieve some of the pressure financially.  My ultimate goal is for him to be able to be quit his day job and just do UPS at night.  I am dreaming big!  OH that would be magical.  Yes I said magical.  So anywho.... I will keep this space up to date with any shop news.

My phone is running out of space so I am doing all these links from my phone so I can erase some!  I don't even think that will really help the storage issue but I am going to do it any way!  So this is the first edition of-

Weekend Cellphone links!

My boy would love to wear this T-REX necklace!  It is a skeleton and a dinosuar?  And that price?  Triple threat!

This 5 ways to update thrift store art article from Apartment Therapy is awesome.  I love the ideas.  Especially the dipped picture.

A rope braid hairstyle is a perfectly casual up-do.  I love it!

Pretty much everything from the 2 bandits shop is awesome.  But right now I want this necklace.

This little reminder for all the creatives out there.

I want a mindful home.  Even more so I want a mindful life.  But our home is a good place to start.

These balloon wall lamps are amazeballs!  And I don't use that phrase lightly.  Ugh they are the stuff dreams are made of.

This coffee cake is on my to-do list this weekend.

Halloween is only a few- well more like 6ish- weeks away.  Needless to say I have Halloween crafts on the mind.  I really love the bat mobile from Martha Stewart!

One of my bucket list type things for my life is to learn to make cheese.  I love cheese that much.  How awesome are these cheese making kits from Urban Cheese on Etsy?  My dream is in my grasp!

I am off to enjoy my weekend!  We are seeing James Taylor play with the Mormon Tabernacle choir tonight.  Oh yeah baby!

Happy Weekend Friends!

1st Grade!

This boy started 1st grade two weeks ago.  I was like what?   I have a freaking 1st grader?!  I know how cliche it is to say but my oh my how the time does fly.  He had a rough first day.  Poor kid fell at lunch and pretty much cried the rest of the time he was at school.  It was less about the hurt and more about being overwhelmed I think.  He has been a champ the rest of the time.  Well it has gotten better each day at least.  HA!  He is getting so big.  It makes me want to cry and shout for joy at the same time.  I have such conflicting feelings about him growing up.  Mostly I am happy though!  It has been a privilege to be his mother and to watch him grow.

Lola has been doing a lot better having him gone all day long than I thought she would.  We haven't had any issues except that she thinks it should be a party all day everyday.  She wants to rock and roll all night and party everyday!  I want to rock and roll some nights and part of every day.

On a side note- Help a girl out with ideas for lunches to send with the boy!  What do you send?  Do your kids eat their lunch?  Because mine sure doesn't.

Weekend Links

I had a GNO at Bunco this week.  I love going to Bunco!  It is a great time with awesome ladies.  It was invigorating.  It is weird how just two hours away from all responsibility can really do you wonders.  We have spent some time this week getting Nicco ready for school next week.  The summer flew by!  I will be happy for the routine that the school year brings but it is a little bittersweet since the boy will be gone all day now at school.  Lola is going to miss him just as much as I will.  It has been nice and cool in the morning and in the evening lately so we are trying to spend our time outside during those few precious hours.  We taught the kids to play bocce.  Needless to say many of my evenings have been spent playing it.  No news on the job front.  Ugh.... job hunting can be really frustrating.  We are getting down to the wire and getting a little stressed out.  Any advice would be so helpful!  We need all the help we can get so if you have any nuggets of wisdom about not only job searching but job finding that would be awesome!

This DIY popsicle backdrop would be cute for a summer photo shoot.

I am not positive what I would store in these canvas baskets but I am positive I need them!

With the heat being unbearable some days I am always on the look for yummy recipes that do not require turning on the oven.  Like this one for egg salad.  Oh I love a good egg salad.

We are currently loving mail at our house.  People love getting cards and letters.  I am hoping the Post Office will deliver mail in envelopes like these.  Because we are making some. They are so fun!

This is a pretty accurate picture of what it feels like here lately.

Easy polka dot potholder set.  Next movie project?

Cute mermaid doll pattern!  Perfect for summer.  Also realistic mermaid videos.  I am not saying they are real- I am just saying they could be peeps.

OH my heavens blackberry pie bars sound so good.  I wants them now!

I lovely love my family is right!  This needs to come to my house in black ASAP.

Did you know that a stomach rumble actually has a name?  Now you do and that name is wamble.  What is the name for a time wasting list?

Nicco would look awesome in this Misfits tee.

Need a smile?  How about a pineapple wigglegram?  Complete with instructions to make your own!

Friday Fox

Love these fox leggings!  Such beautiful fall colors.  It has been 95-100 degrees during the day around here so fall seems like a far off thought.  The nights have been getting cooler and seem to be a little teaser of what is coming though.  YAY!

Friday Fox

Oh how this bracelet slays me!  It is a fox and makes me think of fall.  It isn't available anymore but I feel like doing a remake of it is in the future!

Happy Birthday!

Happy 6th birthday my Nicco boy!*  You are rad!  My sweet little man, Lola's champion and Dad's little playmate.  You are a big nerd and that helps you fit perfectly in our family.  I am glad I get to be the one you call mom.  You rock my socks off boy baby!

*His birthday was actually this weekend but I couldn't tear myself away from the festivities to post it.

Friday Fox

This painting is perfect!  It is tiny, has a fox and a fire.  I love tiny things.  The whole shop is filled with tiny original paintings of foxes!

My family

I love when I find pictures like the one above when I open IPhoto.  My little family is awesome!  They are totally right on for me.

Movie Project: Scalloped Shorts

I love quick projects!  I bookmarked this DIY scalloped short tutorial from Mandi at Making Nice In The Midwest like 3 years ago.  I love it now just as much as then.  It is great.  And fast! However,  I unfortunately never wear shorts.  But with our recent unemployment I had to get creative with the kids summer clothes.  So armed with the tutorial and a pair of jeans to make into jorts I made Lola a pair of scalloped shorts.

I fray-checked the bejeezus out of them!  Even with that they frayed quite a bit in the wash.  The look isn't bad so I just trim off the long pieces and let it be.

I used a gatorade cap for the scallop and it ended up being the perfect size.

Here's a little closer look.  I love that they are a pair of casual cut offs that are spiced up.  I have ended up liking them so much that I may have to make a pair for me!

Movie/show:  A billion episodes of The Aqua Bats Super Show
Time Spent: Like an hour and a half- the fray check took forever!

Sunday Songs

I have been listening to the Coconut Records station on Pandora non-stop lately.  The mix of artists is great!  Plus I love Coconut Records.

Weekend Links

This last week has been a pretty great one!  No complaints from me.  Except Lola throwing rocks at someones car.  That mostly blows because we are still out of a job and now have car repair bills to pay. BOO!  Lola was punished and then continued punishing herself about it.  Poor girl learned from her mistake big time.  All we did was tell her we were disappointed in her and that what she did was wrong.  No raised voices even!  I remember as a kid that the worse punishments I had was when my parents would sit me down and talk to me like an adult.  All I could think was that I would rather have the yelling and screaming.  Don't tell me you are disappointed in me!  Beat me soundly and put me in my room but please don't TALK to me!!  Haha!  It seemed to work really well with Lola.  Maybe time out is a thing of our past?  Yeah I doubt it but maybe we are moving in a great and mature direction.  We took the kids to Wheeler Farm this week.  It was fun to take them around and see the animals.  Nicco told us everything he has learned from being up on our family sheep ranch.  He has learned way more than I realized!  He loved the bunnies the most.  Lola loved the chickens.  The kids also got to go to a pool party.  That could be a post in itself.  The drama, the near deaths!  OH man but they had fun.

On to the links!

This is a perfect birthday card for a little one! Actually I would love to get it myself.

I love when doilies are used in an unusual way. Like in this hanging lamp! It is grandma chic, no?

The dolls made by the Etsy shop Warm Sugar are so delightful. Lola may need one for Christmas. Yes I said Christmas. It is less than 6 months away peeps.

This piece of art is so so lovely.  It looks unexpected and the texture kills me. I am going to own one of these. Now to save my pennies.

My Lola would rock this dress up one side and down the other!

3 easy nail polish tutorials. When I say easy I mean that I could most likely do these. So that is crazy easy.

The temperature here has been a little too warm for my liking the last few weeks.  So I am choosing to daydream about these glowing snow flanked igloos.

This dress is so fraking cute.  Check out how Mandy styled it.  Love it!

Friday Fox

This fox print is so great!  I love everything about it.  It is so rich.  Ugh I just love it.

It comes from the Etsy shop Ricky Art Gallery. The whole shop is full of wonderful artwork prints.

June's Instants

Last year for my birthday Nick bought me a Polaroid 300 instant camera.  It has been so fun using it!  But the film is a little expensive and there is a bit of a learning curve.  I am not a photographer by nature so it has been a little extra hard for me.  HA!  I do love the raw quality you get with it.  I also love having a picture in my hand to look at right then.  I am all about instant gratification!  I want to get to know it better and learn the technique of getting rad pictures with it.  So my goal this year is to take a packs worth of pictures every month.

Here are June's favorites:

We took these on a recent hike to Ensign Peak.

Nicco took this one of Nick and me.  I love it so much!  He has been begging to use the Polaroid and by the looks of it I should have let him try earlier.

This is my blown out one of Nick and the kids.  I didn't change the setting (oops!) and it is a little too saturated.

I love having pictures of me and the kids.  I don't often get in pictures so the occasional one with them is great!

Weekend Links

This week has been hot.  Like over 100 degrees hot.  I wilt in the heat.  So we have been hanging out inside a lot.  We still managed to head to the park a couple days this week and of course we hit up the library.  But other than that nada!  I have some fun things we did to post about the next few weeks and hopefully I can get my toush in gear and get it done!  We are still on the job hunt.  Which is a frustrating process at times but I am staying positive!  It has only been 2 and a half weeks so I am not too worried.  Not too mention that it has been great to have Nick home again this week.  The kids are loving it and so am I!  Little blessings.

It is 102 degrees today!  Frick it is hot.  But I still love this unicorn sweatshirt.

Check out this photo shoot!  The colors and drama kill me.

I am in love with these shoes!  Seychelles shoes are so lovely.

This chair should be mine.  For reals.

Got bloggers block?  Then read this!  I don't think I have bloggers block so much as I have a computer block.  If the computer is off I have no desire to turn it on.  HA!

I am thinking the coca-cola pulled pork from this 4th of July recipe round up look ridonk!  I love a good pulled pork.

I am thinking this recipe for dinner tonight!  Easy and it looks delicious.  Plus who doesn't love marinara and ricotta?

With the heat outside we are needing activities to do inside.  I love this Monogram art to do with the kids.

Weekend Links

This week has been so great!  Nick lost his job last week which has been a little stressful since we aren't even remotely prepared.  We have learned the hard way that there is a reason they say you need savings.  So goal number one when a new job is found is to start saving and build it up as quick as possible.  Savings diet anyone?  Oh and pay off debt cause debt blows.  So why do I say that the week has been great?  We have had Nick home.  We are hoping that it doesn't last long but it has been really really lovely having him home.  Like a little slice of heaven good.  The kids are loving it.  Nick and I are able to have conversations that aren't happening in the car on our way from this place to the next.  I love it!  He is my favorite person after all.  Nick is still working at UPS at night so it isn't like we are totally screwed but that doesn't pay the bills yet!  We are more lucky than some though.  So I am counting my blessings.

50 rules for Dads of Daughters.  That list makes me cry.  The end.

How would you like a recipe for a DIY hair mask?  Yeah it is only two ingredients!  You could even do organic to make it sufficiently hipster.  But I will be using costco olive oil and little bear honey.  That is just me though.

When I saw this recipe for buttermilk roast chicken my mouth watered.  For some reason it reminds me of my childhood.

Holy amazing little boys bow ties!!

Check out this tween bedroom makeover.  Seriously so lovely!

Easy boho Maxi Dress tutorial.  There are so many good ones around that I might have to actually try making one.

WW weekly update

Stats:
Lost/gained: +1.4
Total lost: 6.8

I was going to do this post earlier this week but my freaking computer won't download my pictures off the card because it says it can't recognize the file(?).  I don't get it so instead you get a generic picture of me.  Lame!  But real life, right?

I gained 1.4 pounds.  Oy.  I am actually okay about it now.  To say I was slightly upset a few days ago would be a humongous understatement.  Which is funny because I actually knew going into the weigh in that I probably gained.  That is what happens when you don't follow the program.  HA!  Funny thing how if you do the work, barring any health issues, you will lose weight.  It is the whole being disciplined thing that got me.  I am a rebel at heart.  Which sounds pathetic when I look at it from this point of view.  I am rebelling against my own health.  That isn't bringing down "the man".  It is just getting in the way of my goals and life.  I am not sure how to get over that little rebellion.  Tell me how!!!  Help!

I will say that I don't want to go in there and gain again.  Not at all.  I feel like I really let myself down.  I have the discipline to change.  I am just afraid of failing this time like I have so many other times.  It hurts to let yourself down.  It hurts to know that you are the only one to blame.  So why not fail early so it won't hurt so bad?  Does that sound ridiculous to anyone else?  I deserve better than this body I have created.  This is not who I am.  I am strong.  I am healthy!  This body is my past and I am going to start running like hell at the future!

This week is going to be all about tracking.  Tracking is basically writing down everything you eat and the points that correlate with those foods.  Weeks that I track I rock!  And I am ready to rock.  I am making a realistic goal of tracking everything for 5 days this week.  With at least one of those days to be a weekend day.  Weekends are my biggest challenge.

What are your goals this week?

Friday Fox

Oh my holy heckballs!  This fox sweatshirt from Supayana is perfect!  I want it for Lola.  If only it came in a 4T or 5T.  Ugh.. first world problems, eh?

Weekend Links

We are having such a nice weekend.  It has been great- well except Nick's second bout of pink eye in two weeks.  That is no fun and it looks like it is viral so it is a wait it out and see type thing.  Yuck!  Poor guy.  We celebrated National Record Store day yesterday and picked up three new records for our collection.  Now to find a record player we love and save for it.  It rained a lot yesterday and the SLC marathon was going on.  Between those two things we stayed home most of the day.  We ordered chinese take out, played with our marble run, watched shows and fixed my sisters car.  Well Nick fixed the car actually and I just kept him company.  Ha!  It has been great.  And with Nick's pink eye it looks like we are staying home from church and having a quiet Sunday.  I can't complain!  After the events of the last week in Boston and Texas I am hugging the kids and Nick tighter.  I am enjoying the sweet everyday moments we have together.  It is sad that it takes amazing tragedy for me to really look at my life and be glad for the things I have.  We don't have a lot of money, our own home or the nicest cars but we have a sweet family and great friends.  We have each other.  And in the long run that is all that matters.  I am going to try and remember these feelings of gratitude long after these events become a part of our Nation's past.

Shall we get past the heavy stuff and get into some fun?!  Links!

Do you remember the Can't Touch This Hallmark commercial?  Well feast your eyes on its glory!

You know how cats are like the hip thing right now?  Well I am not a fan but check out these DIY cat toe shoes!   They are making me a believer.

I have no immediate use for this fabric but I want it!  OH and this oil cloth too.  I am trying to not buy things I don't need.  Which is hard!  I feel like some things just belong in my life.

Cute messy bun tutorial.  This is my hair style everyday bit it isn't nearly this cute!

Since starting WW I have eaten a ton of eggs.  They are low in points and high in filling protein. Win win!  Which is why I want to make this egg sandwich.  Nothing ground breaking but it looks beyond delicious.

I am stalking a lot of home decor websites lately.  And I want these fabric wraps!  Ugh they are so lovely!  I can just imagine wrapping a loaf of bread in one and giving it as a gift for a new neighbor.

Dirty brown rice with shrimp?  I say yes, please!

This post is for anyone who is trying to get a business off the ground.  Truly inspirational!

I love this idea from A Beautiful Mess about making 4 seasonal goals.  A little more realistic than the 28 before 29 type posts.  Now to figure out my spring goals!

Friday Fox

OH my I want this fox so bad!  It is made of paper mache.  I am going to save my pennies to get one of these bad boys!  It was created by Abigail Brown.  She is a a textile artist.  And a really good one at that!  I found out about her via A Pair of Pears.

WW weekly update

Stats:
Lost: 2 pounds!
Total Lost: 8.2

Can I get a what what?!  I am down another two pounds.  I am so pumped up.  I just want to keep this momentum going.  This week I am hoping to lose 3 pounds.  That should be pretty doable.  My sister told me about Skinny Taste.  It is a site that has a lot of WW Points Plus recipes.  I am going to try a few out this week and see how they go. I am grateful for the people that came before me and figured out the points and skinny versions of my favorite foods!  Takes a lot of guessing and experimenting out of the equation.  Which in the long run can help my success.  I get frustrated really easily.  So I will take all the help I can get!  I am still trying to figure out the weekends.  They are my biggest issue.  I rock the week and then come Saturday morning I seem to lose all control.  Ugh one meal at a time right?  Any tricks that anyone knows?

I think next week I am going to wear a tight shirt.  I want to see the progress and not hide it under a loose shirt.

The ever lovely full front shot

I decided that I need a rear view.  I want all perspectives!

I tried Skinny Cow vanilla ice cream sandwiches this week.  My mind is blown!  They are surprisingly good for a "diet" food.  The cookie was a little crisp and the ice cream was creamy.  At a 4 PP value they are going to be a regular item in our freezer.  To say I recommend them is an understatement. I want to try the other flavors soon!

Pretty Pots!

Over spring break we let the kids paint up a couple of pots and pick some flowers to put in them.  The kids and I each picked a paint color.  I figured that way they could paint their hearts out and we could have some coordinating new pots.  Can you guess what color I chose?  I can't help it!  I love black.  The kids did such an amazing job.  I love the fun abstract look of each one.  I think I am going to buy one of those huge terra-cotta pot and let them have at with the same colors.  Wouldn't that be lovely?  Now to keep the flowers alive.

On a side note: Any advice on sealing them?  The paint was an outdoor paint but I am wondering (probably a little late) if I need to use a sealant on them?  They were rained and snowed on and seemed to hold up just fine but I want them to last for at least a few years.  Any advice?

Oh I am into spring.  I love it!

Weekend Links

picture taken by my husband

This week and weekend has been great.  We spent a lot of time with family and friends. I went to the most amazing little bakery in downtown SLC.  It is called Eva's Bakery and everyone in and out of the area should check it out.  It is a french inspired bakery and the food was phenomenal!  It was also Bunco night this week.  FUN!  I really enjoy the group of ladies we have.  Lola and I got a chance to go spend some time with my sister and her daughter this week.  That is something that needs to happen a lot more!  The whole family were able to spend some time with some of our favorite friends yesterday evening.  Good food and good company.  It was great!

Spring is a fickle time in Utah.  It is warm one second then snowing and raining the next.  Which is rough!  We start getting excited for warm spring days and then we get slapped with craptastic weather.  I can't really complain because all too soon it will be over 100 degrees and I will be wishing for a cold day.  Back to the point!  The blossoms are starting to bloom on the trees.  This is my second favorite season.  I love the feeling of excitement that I feel in spring!  I feel very creative and happy right now.  Here's to the good times ahead!

ON to the links!

It is sweatshirt weather here in Utah and I love the look of this DIY sweatshirt revamp.  Easy and cute. Love it!  I pretty much love anything from Cotton & Curls

I have been searching for some graphic art for my room/home.  I love this art inspired by one of my favorite songs.

The story of a guy finding an original Picasso painting in a thrift store is an old one but it still blows my mind!  I would have fainted!

I am in need of some cute flats.  I love these in the mint!  and these in the dark tan.

We have one too many naked Barbies around.  Even when they are dressed they are a little immodest- to the point of being trampy.  Not anymore!  Barbie clothes that are super cute, simple and a great scrap busting project.

Anyone have 8 hundred bucks lying around that they want to use to but me a ring?  Cause it is pretty and I want it!

Check out these wedge shoes.  Oh yes!  Love them!  Platform and ties?  Best!

The kids are moving into a new room that has a great big window and I am thinking of using these curtains as inspiration for their room.  I love that they are hand painted. And the tutorial is easy to follow.

I love beverage dispensers.  They are great for parties.  But more importantly great for the hibiscus tea I make all summer long.  The design of this one from Crate and Barrel 2 is awesome.  So modern and unique.

Friday Fox

Todays fox comes from the Etsy shop Burrowing Home.  And it basically rocks.  It is a fox temporary tattoo!  This is not your kids dollar store temporary tattoo.  They are so cool.  Not only can you get the tattoos but they have lovely prints and oil paintings for sale as well.

Movie Project- LBN!

I like quick craft projects.  Like ones you get done while watching a movie.  Or a few episodes of your favorite program.  I love the satisfaction I get from getting something all the way finished.  The longer a project is going to take me to finish the less likely I am going to get it done.  That is a sad but very true fact.  I have a few long term projects in mind.  They are ones I am excited about so they hopefully that will motivate me to get them done!

Back to the point though!  I am going to start doing a movie project every week.  Just some little for fun kind of project that I do while watching a movie.  The biggest challenge I will have is that it needs to be useful.  I don't need tons of little knick knacks.  I am sure some will be useless though.  I love useless! This necklace is the first of many projects.

All I did was take some 1" wooden beads and paint them black.  I then strung it on a necklace.  Easy peasy.  I made it to go with my Easter dress.  Which I never got to wear on Easter.  That is the problem with sick kids!  Le sigh.....  But now I have a cute necklace to wear with it.

I used Martha Stewart high gloss acrylic paint in beetle black to paint them.  I love her paints!  They are really high quality.

I can't wait to wear it with my new dress.  I may even take some pictures of me wearing it and post them.

Made while watching: General Conference of the LDS church
