Pretty Pots!

Over spring break we let the kids paint up a couple of pots and pick some flowers to put in them.  The kids and I each picked a paint color.  I figured that way they could paint their hearts out and we could have some coordinating new pots.  Can you guess what color I chose?  I can't help it!  I love black.  The kids did such an amazing job.  I love the fun abstract look of each one.  I think I am going to buy one of those huge terra-cotta pot and let them have at with the same colors.  Wouldn't that be lovely?  Now to keep the flowers alive.

On a side note: Any advice on sealing them?  The paint was an outdoor paint but I am wondering (probably a little late) if I need to use a sealant on them?  They were rained and snowed on and seemed to hold up just fine but I want them to last for at least a few years.  Any advice?

Oh I am into spring.  I love it!

Movie Project- LBN!

I like quick craft projects.  Like ones you get done while watching a movie.  Or a few episodes of your favorite program.  I love the satisfaction I get from getting something all the way finished.  The longer a project is going to take me to finish the less likely I am going to get it done.  That is a sad but very true fact.  I have a few long term projects in mind.  They are ones I am excited about so they hopefully that will motivate me to get them done!

Back to the point though!  I am going to start doing a movie project every week.  Just some little for fun kind of project that I do while watching a movie.  The biggest challenge I will have is that it needs to be useful.  I don't need tons of little knick knacks.  I am sure some will be useless though.  I love useless! This necklace is the first of many projects.

All I did was take some 1" wooden beads and paint them black.  I then strung it on a necklace.  Easy peasy.  I made it to go with my Easter dress.  Which I never got to wear on Easter.  That is the problem with sick kids!  Le sigh.....  But now I have a cute necklace to wear with it.

I used Martha Stewart high gloss acrylic paint in beetle black to paint them.  I love her paints!  They are really high quality.

I can't wait to wear it with my new dress.  I may even take some pictures of me wearing it and post them.

Friday Fox

OH my gosh this is rad!  It is a DIY fox lampshade.  You buy the paper pattern and all the pieces from this shop and then put it together yourself.

I love it like this too!

And if a cute little fox isn't your taste they have other animals as well.  Awesome!

Hand Stamped Pashmina Scarf

I feel like I should celebrate fall a little.  So how about this next week is all about fall?!

Cool temps come with fall and scarves come with cool weather.  I have 3 of the exact same pashmina style scarves.  Nick brought them home to me last year from a store he has inventoried.  They were a gift with purchase that apparently no one wanted.  I decided to figure out something fun to do with them but it was a when I get around to it kind of thing.  Well finally a year later I am gettin' around to it.  At least around to one.

I hand stamped it using this post from Kelli Murray's blog as inspiration.  I love the way it turned out!  I love the rough and uneven look.  I eyeballed the placement and I love that it really looks hand stamped.

I apologize for the wrinkles and bad lighting.  It was a dark and lazy day today!

I like how it shows the pattern when free hanging.

But I also love when it is all tied up as well!

Kissing Ball for Christmas

I feel like it needs to be a Christmas week this whole week all up on the blog.  Maybe it has something to do with being the week before Christmas?  Yeah I am not sure either!  I had to share a craft I made.  This is my first official hand-made Christmas decoration.  I have it hanging from a hook in the middle of the living room.

It is a kissing ball!  Basically just another version of mistle toe.  I added bells so when you kiss you knock them and they announce a bit of happiness!  My sweet little niece taught me how to make them.  So easy!  If anyone is interested in a tutorial I can whip one up.  It is pretty simple.

cowl neck collar scarf thing

I have been in a knitting mood lately.  It must be because the weather finally started to turn to colder temps.  I started making a full on scarf but got sick of knitting it real quick!  So I turned it into a cowl neck collar scarf thing.  Yeah I am not sure about that name either.  I am pretty positive that I love the cowl neck collar scarf thing though!  I figured out how to do the hole and everything on my own.  For all of you knitters out there that are laughing at me right now- I was pretty proud!!  I am a novice knitter at best.

Don't mind my ridiculous bangs!  I need to cut them super bad!  Luckily I can do it myself now thanks to vintage wife!!

Is knitter even a word?  It doesn't look right typed up.  Or said out loud for that matter.

Itsy Bitsy Spiders

Creepy eh?  October is just a few days away.  Holy cow has time flown this year!  I need to get on the Halloween and fall decorations or I will miss out this year.

So I had to share this Halloween idea!!  They are magnetic spiders.  It is easy and inexpensive.  Right up my alley!  And spooky to boot.  It is from a guest post that Delia Creates did on Miss Lovie.  Check it out here.

Veggies!!!!

Some of the fruits (and veggies) of our labor!

Having a garden is so satisfying!  I am not sure what it is about picking a veggie that I have grown myself but I get a warm fuzzy feeling of pride.

I guess it is extra gratifying because I usually kill plants.  Deader than a doornail.  I have the blackest of black thumbs.  It is like kohl it is so black.  Our garden must be growing so well because my babies sing sweet songs to them.

Back tomorrow with the continuation of the Photo Challenge!  I am a slacker.... sorry.

I cut my bangs!

The above photo is my attempt to seduce you all.  HAHA!  I can't help but crack up every time I look at it.  Do I look sick to any one else?  Yeah I swear I was going for "come hither" not "I just might lose my cookies".  I am working on the posing.

Any ways... the point of this post was to show you all my new bangs.  I cut those bad boys myself.  Um yeah you heard right I rocked some shears!  I had a three day weekend this past weekend and in between all the other crap I had to do I cut up my hair.  I was wicked nervous to get started.  Luckily I had my sister in law there by my side to rescue me if I got too nervous.  And this amazing tutorial from
The Vintage Wife as my guide.  Man oh man was that first cut a rush!  Oh baby!  I just might need to find some tutorials for adding layers in next.  I will admit that I need to clean them up a bit more but all in all the end result is what I wanted.  The craziest part was that just adding bangs made me start trying a little harder when getting ready.  I have actually worn make-up everyday since doing this.  That is a crazy big deal for me!!  It is just what I needed!  The only issue I have had is that they seem to make me a bit more hot so in hindsight I should have probably waited until closer to the end of September to cut them.

So I think this might count as # 22 on my 27 before 28 list!  One down 27 to go!

Easy Peasy dress!

See Lola's dress?  The one that has straps that need to be fixed? I made that!  It is two bandanas sewn together.  I added a casing at the top for some elastic to tighten it up and added levi straps.  The straps are a little skeewompaus but I am so proud of it!  I love it as a matter of fact.  She loves "pitty" dresses.  So much so that she will keep them on.  At least for a little while.  It was the perfect dress for the 4th of July!  I see a few more bandana dresses in here near future.  It was easy peasy!  If anyone wants a full on tutorial I would be happy to put one together as I will be making millions more of these!  Especially considering I bought the bandanas for a buck a piece and it took me 30 minutes to make.  YAY for inexpensive crazy fast baby dresses!  Sorry for the quality of pictures!  Trying to get that girl to sit still for 2 seconds is a fight to the finish!

Another picture of the girl baby for good measure!
